Free training for women thinking about setting up a businessExtra help for women running a business under 3 years old Across the South East, a project is taking place to improve the help available to women considering starting up their own business. It is called the South East Women’s Business Service, or SEWBS. Emma Drew is the West Sussex Women’s Business Adviser, employed by Business Link. She works with women on a one to one basis, offering business advice, one-to-one meetings and training.
Emma’s guidance is available to all West Sussex women whatever their background, experience and aspirations. She has worked with Lawyers, Interior Designers, Record Labels and Publishers, to Cosmetic Surgeons, Beauty Therapists and Child Minders.
Emma travels to these women on a daily basis, at work or home. Her support is not just applicable to women at the early stages of their career, but is consistent for up to 3 years.
Emma believes that a positive attitude goes a long way in business, and part of her role is to encourage as well as offer guidance: “What many of the women I work with have in common is their passion for what it is they want to do But many are lacking self-confidence. Sometimes it just takes someone listen for fantastic ideas to flourish” she says.
“Generally women are more successful in business” Emma adds “their businesses often sustain for longer. However they are usually smaller than men’s - My dream is to see these small businesses grow and develop”.
