Female Relatives to blame for your rubbish Christmas presents
, Tuesday, 22 December 2009

Our Aunties, Nans and Mothers are responsible for buying the worst Christmas gifts according to research revealed today by leading online bingo site - galabingo.com...

In the poll of 2,000 Brits, to celebrate the great presents from galabingo.com this Christmas of £150k jackpots, it was discovered that worst offenders in the pressie buying stakes are our female relations, with Aunts taking the overall title of ‘worst present buyer.’ Brothers scoop the responsibility from our male relations with more than one in ten purchasing unsuitable gifts.

Surprisingly, when asked ‘what was the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?’ the poll revealed that one in four of us have faced unwrapping cheap copies of designer perfumes and cosmetics on Christmas morning. Common themes in unpopular gifts include socks, Christmas-themed jumpers and kitchen utensils - which have been received by one in ten of the nation!

Other unwanted presents include car vacuums, scarf sets, novelty items and a computer mouse.

With £150k in jackpots being given away by galabingo.com in December it seems some of the most sought-after gifts remain to be the high-value laptops, cameras and mp3 players. More sentimental presents that made the list included engagement rings and a dog.

When it came to identifying weird and whacky gifts some confessed to receiving items such as wooden pigs, a computer powered hamster and even a wooden tie! The top five most commonly received ‘strange’ gifts were homemade jewellery followed by unsuitable undies, knitted clothing, talking keyrings, mechanical pets and a blanket!

However it seems that overall we are a grateful nation, as two-thirds of us would not take an unwanted gift back after Christmas. The least grateful age group are those aged 26-30 and it seems the older we get the more pleased we are with our gifts, with the 56 and overs being the age group most unlikely to seek a refund come January.

Lesley Hall, online PR manager at galabingo.com, said: “It has been interesting to see how the nation really feels about the presents they receive at Christmas and who is responsible for buying those unwanted gifts! To help our online players have the best Christmas this year and receive a present they really want, galabingo.com is giving the best gifts and offering £150k in jackpots.”
