Recently restored by her owner Andrew Armour, when she was shortlisted for Classic Boat's Restoration of the Year Award in 2007, Halcyon now operates as a luxury charter yacht, based, unusually for a yacht of this class, in the UK. The yacht has had a long and sometimes tough life and by the end of her days at the School of Navigation at Warsash in 1988 was destined for retirement to Australia but, as in all good fairy tales, she was rescued from that uncertain fate and given a new lease of life as a charter yacht.
Thanks to oil/energy magnate, Andrew Armour - the current owner – who recognized her pedigree and potential, Halcyon is in sparkling condition once again after a £1 million re-fit at Tommi Nielsen’s shipyard in Gloucester and is now used as a fully-crewed charter yacht for the ultimate, luxury sailing experience around the UK. Andrew Armour, Halcyon’s owner, had attended the Ellen MacArthur Trust Ball and donated a day on Halcyon as an auction prize but has been so taken with the work of the Trust that he has agreed to donate 5% of all the income from individuals, groups and businesses who quote the Ellen MacArthur Trust when booking.
